The application layer is becoming an increasingly small piece of the whole thing. The tools you have can do a lot for you, but there're still people who need to manage their own memory. I think rust is a beautifully designed language and has done a really good job of being usable,. It's shocking to me that so many people would go back and do manual memory management. Most people don't need it.
