The Story of the Brook Farm Institute for Agriculture and Education
Ripley bought a 200 acre dairy farm in West Roxbury for $10,500 on October 11, 1841. He didn't have any knowledge of farming so he started to study agriculture as he planned the farm. The main farmhouse would serve as the primary dorm and it also had a lot of social spaces. There was a community school, which eventually moved into a building called the Nest. And it was designed to educate future citizens. Jobs would be arranged based on affinity. They were going to try to make people able to do the jobs that most appealed to them.
