Both amyloid and tau scans are not covered by insurance. The clinical utility of these scans is pretty low just because the cost of them is so high. If someone has positive tau on their tau scan, the likelihood that they'll ultimately develop cognitive decline is higher than just amyloid. But looking at tau scans in the setting of also having an amyloid scan could be helpful.
