Can a Purely Good Man Like Michigan Be Really Social?
I think he's embracing a complex idea, which recognizes the complete self-deception involved in status. But also sees it as necessary, almost like Nietzsche's untruth is a necessary condition of life. So in other words, can a purely good man like Michigan be actually be social? Well, he fails at that pretty badly. And are we meant to think that the social as it is can be reformed and you can do away with all the games? I don't think that's what we learn.
