The Importance of Beliefs
Belief or inner passivity does a better job of explaining those sorts of rituals than ideology. On the side of belief there is what people actually find life worth living for. And that is somehow also a revolutionary resource. We have square football fans who were used to fighting but also used to solidarizing even for an apparently silly cause.
