The Role of Oil in Southern California
Oil drilling was happening off the coast of Santa Barbara as early as the late 19th century. The ports became dependent on trading petroleum and built their infrastructure to accommodate handling a lot of what's called trans-shipment So moving in and moving out of oil and made quite a bit of money from that.
