The Bayesian formula allows you to quantify the strength of evidence too. People often ask themselves, is this observation consistent with my working pet theory? And if so, then I counted it as evidence for my theory. The actual question should be: Is this observation more likely under my theory versus another theory? A stark violation of this Bayesian definition of evidence would be a congressman arguing for internment of Japanese Americans because they might be spies for Japan.
