The poem is from the point of view of a woman. It's widely contested as to what the actual translation of it should be. The language in it has this quite unique thing that has made it very difficult to translate. A lot of the words just do not directly translate to one thing at all. There are bloodthirsty men on the island, they will consume him if he comes into their troop. And she is in a huge amount of distress and pain because she has been forcibly separated from her lover.
