Shakespeare is in the public domain. It's not been in copyright for hundreds of years. If someone copies that and then adds a little human touch on that, they don't get the underlying copyright thing because that's public domain. They only get what they've added atop the machine created thing. How much can you really add a top that is really creative enough to make it worthwhile? And I would say if it's just another line here or there, that's not sufficiently original or creative to add copyright ability.
