Moral Regulation in State Formation
This refers back to the argument that we see hin do nationali craft operating at the micro scale of everyday gender relations and intimacies. This is an idea that we borrow from philip corrigan and derick sayer in their theorization of state formation as cultural revolution. So moral regulation renders specific ways of life natural in a way that is coextensive with the distinctive state form and the moral ethos that justifies that particular state form. And a key aspect of moral regulation, in turn, is the building of the construct of the nation as a side of primary social identification and loyalty against a foil of alien others.
