The Importance of Separating the Sultanate From the Islamic State
Kaleef Abdomaju II was appointed in 1922. He was stripped of his legislative powers by the National Assembly which was dominated by nationalists. As part of that discussion I read very often that the Kaleefate was separated from the Sultanate and I've never really understood the significance of that, what is the what's the significance of separating these two institutions? It's a good question once again because I think many of us when we use the word Sultanate, we just internalize it as being a fort, it's just monarchy but actually in Islam this is why I've made the argument consistently that the word Islamic state in English is not helpful.
