If you are perceived by other people as bragging about yourself, no one's going to listen. But if someone else is saying those exact same things about you, then other people are going to listen and they're going to say, wow, she sounds amazing. We can be strategic about this. If you have a trusted friend or colleague, you can go to that person and say, look, let's make a pact at the next conference or the next networking event. I will focus on talking you up if you do the same thing for me. And it ends up benefiting you both.
