I remember the 1990s when the internet worldwide web became very popular that it would democratize everything. And here we are in 2022 where actually a lot of that is pointing in the opposite direction. The discussion at Budapest was amusing because it also immediately revealed the fact that we didn't know where we wanted to go. We were all a bunch of happy dreamers actually which was a very nice state of mind to be in at the same time as it gave us a lot of energy and a lot of confidence.

Open Access is one of the pillars of Open Science. In this episode I am talking to Jean-Claude Guedon from the University of Montreal (Canada). Jean-Claude is one of the authors of the declaration of the Budapest Open Access Initiative from 2002. He is also an expert on scientific communication and its history.
Who better to take us through the road that led to the Open Access declaration, what has become of it and where (we hope) it will go.
