If you have a very distributed application, there may be other solutions like using a vendor that deals with bot detection. I wanted to focus on the blog post of kind of just a one node deployment and plug attack was the perfect library for the situation I found. You'd probably end up putting something in front of your entire web application, like a WAF web application firewall where it could do some of that detection.
