The Importance of Half Belief
Sociologists want to document the imbalance between actual practices of superstitions and the degree that you say you believe them. Half belief isn't all or nothing, but rather that our beliefs work along two separate continuums: how much we believe it and how much we practice in a way that suggests that we believe it. They develop these scales that will help identify the distribution of half believers who practice more than they believe and passive believers who practice less than they believe.
