The Reduction of Individuality in the Age of Social Media
I often think about the fact that hashtags are incredible in the sense that when a hashtag goes viral you know whatever human on the planet is basically going to be talking about that day. In that way we all kind of lose some of our individuality. So it's very very categorized and regimented that you're now expected to list yourself as a bunch of labels whether they're hashtags or identifiers. And this is just not as though people don't prejudge others in a day to day life it's just that now it's being reified built up and and prescribed algorithmically nonstop.
