The Importance of Impartiality in Philosophy
Murdoch gives us a diagnostic tool to use on others, even if we're not very capable of using it on ourselves. And I think it's a really good reminder to those of a very analytic mindset that philosophy is authored. In a way it's a feature of the analytic philosophical style that there's a great deal of self-effacement involved in the posture of impartiality and objectivity. "I think actually it's very useful posture in lots of ways," Murdoch says.
