The Anonymity of Dublin
In New York, a visitor can kind of feel at home because everybody is kind of a visitor in a sense. But in Dublin, I felt like, boy, I would really need to live here and see the same people at the pub every afternoon or it would be hard. It would take a long time for me to feel like I was one of the Dubliners. The epitome of that in terms of Irish writers who have been to poet Patrick Kavanagh - he becomes a character in other people's writing.
