The battle at the Tolens of River was something like the beginning of an age of widespread large-scale violence. The dynamics and developments that put hundreds of men on the road to their deaths were present across Europe in the late Bronze Age. Crucially, these developments were happening at precisely the same time as cremation was being adopted as the dominant burial rite. These shifts were happening in different places, on different timescales and involved different participants but they were all part of the same world.
