I Think He's Not Interested in Reconstrucing the Soviet Union

I'm not sure that a puton is trying to bring back a, you know, communist. He's made no es to annexor or absorb any central asian republics. Those territories are actually some of the most vulnerable to russian pressure. But as long as they don't join natoves onas they don't connive with his enemies, he's fine leaving them to their own devices.
