You have to get your DNA out of the co-eye and also get rid of the DNA when you're done making RNA. Those two steps are areas that I think are lacking a lot of transparency, he says. When we see DNA contamination, like from plasmids ending up in any injectable, the first thing people think about is whether there's any E. coli endotoxin present because that creates anaphylaxis if you inject it.
