The Indian Child Welfare Act

The case plan ordered by the judge includes regular drug testing, counseling and parenting classes. Jade is a member of the Hila River Indian Community but didn't grow up with the tribe. A federal law passed in 1978 was supposed to ensure that child welfare agencies remove children only under extreme circumstances. If the state still decided to remove a child, they had to tell the tribe and try to place the child with family.
