The Role of Butchich in Serbia's Illiberal International
Butchich started as an extreme nationalist in the 1990s and after 2000, he kept his support base inflamed by the notion of Western injustice toward the Serbs. He struck a deal with Western diplomats about getting to power and becoming more cooperative about Kosovo than the pro-Western government was. So now we have a society that is under pretty strong pressure by the cultural model that is imposed by the president,. which is primarily nationalistic but nothing else than that, a nationalistic and autocratic.
