How Do I Apply Any Advice From Authority Figures to the New World?

I appreciate the sentiment that we all probably overvalue the advice from authority figures. But I think things are changing in careers so fast right now that genuinely, if you're like in school or something, you should probably severely downweight career advice from anyone above the age of 30. It's wildly different to the kind of career advice that older people tell you. If someone's been through 10 different relationship breakups then they're probably a reasonable judge of how to cope with a breakup. And therefore asking for their advice might seem a reasonable thing to do.
