The Effects of a Masting Year
A masting year is when trees produce a lot of fruit and nuts at the same time. Researchers think that massing occurs because there's more food on the ground than squirrels or birds can eat. Masting years also have downstream effects, such as stopping rodents from eating seeds next year - which would be bad for their population.
