Hundreds of Osage lost their lives between 1918 and 1931. The Hale Burkhardt killings are just a sliver of the terror experienced by the Osage during this time. A federal law was passed in 1925, preventing non-Oscages from inheriting head rights of tribal members with more than half of sage blood.
