The term rent seeking has become a way of conceptualizing a certain kind of bad behavior under capitalism or a certain way it doesn't work. I think conceptually we can sort of say it's just like trying to get something, trying to get a flow of income that's higher than your opportunity cost. So they're getting a rent by supplying this market thing. It doesn't sound like such a bad thing in that sense. A lot of innovation and entrepreneurship is in fact chasing rents to as a part of making the market work.
