Hannah Fern: Almost every election that I've worked on since 2005 was the first one I was working, someone says that housing is going to be the decisive subject. The only thing Lisa Nandie said about social housing in her conference speech last week was that she supports the right to buy - which will take away social housing stock. It kind of remains to be seen whether they just think for political reasons. They should be talking about home ownership now, but they still kind of believe in social housing in the background. Gavin Essler: Part of the problem is political parties don't necessarily feel like they have good levers to pull. And therefore they shy away from making it the big issue
