The Origins of Fire
Dr. Jeb, in his preface to Bacon's Opus Magus, refers to what seems to be an early example of both the rocket and the cracker. Dr. Dutans makes reference to many early writers which are mostly so vague and exaggerated that no definite conclusion can be drawn from them. Most refer to the early uses of Greek fire or similar composition. Richard Kurde Leon used Greek fire on his galley at the Siege of Acre in 1191. It is thought by many that it was introduced into Western Europe by the Crusaders who had learned its use in the East.
