The British Army Was in Great Danger
The construction of the royal military canal was plagued with problems. By early 18 o five only six miles, or nine and a half kilometers, had been completed. The government struggled to equip them to even a minimal standard. There was a minor scandal in parliament when it came out that many of these units had been armed with pikes because no firearms were available. It had been well over a hundred years since massed pikemen had been seen on a european battlefield.
