Pax is the latest in Tom Cruise's history of the Roman Empire. It deals with a period where the Empire was at its most successful and peaceful. The book opens in AD68, which is the year that Nero commits suicide. He asks: what do we do now? How is Rome going to cohere?
At its peak, the Roman Empire was perhaps the greatest civilisation in history. But like so many cultures before and after it, it declined and finally ended.
