The Future of Industrial Heat Pumps

Research underway could push the temperature range of industrial heat pumps as high as 280 degrees Celsius and beyond. This would allow them to serve well over a third of industrial heat demand, including everything required in paper pulp, food processing and tobacco. Even the cement industry responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions could meet its need for heat directly using renewable electricity. The remaining 32% which relate to heat could potentially be eliminated through electrification with clean power.
