ECMO Referrals During COVID-19

The decision is interprofessional and multidisciplinary. So it doesn't happen to be the NP or the physician or whoever's on call who gets the call. We usually collect that information and discuss it as a team. And at least in my hospital that requires at least two physicians, usually a surgeon and an intensivist or two surgeons depending on who's available.
