Teaching and teachers are absolutely critical in the project of liberal education. What qualities do you see from great professors that really bring out the best in their students? The teacher is not trying to persuade you to see the world in the way that he or she sees it, but to develop your own capacity. A teacher also has to be in the context of a classroom, has to be a very good listener and kind of sort of conductor of conversation.
