The names of women, qua historical actors or historians were few and far between before the late 1980s. Attendees at the annual meeting did not hear an address that featured Latin America until 1932. Charles M. Andrews suggested pure objectivity produced a kind of history akin to a grim, worldly old hag. The American and the historian were almost always white and male.
