The Singularity of Jewish History
In this week's parishion, Moses communicated an unshakable certainty that what had happened to them would eventually change and inspire the world. In an age of empires, a small defenseless group had been liberated from the greatest empire of all, by a power not their own,. That was Moses's first point, the singularity of Jewish history as a narrative of redemption. His second was the uniqueness of revelation. What other nation is so great is to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us?
