Is the Godfather a Godfather?

In jewish tradition, there is a thing called the sandak, which is how they chose to translate the movi, the godfather. In catholic and protestant churches, it's basically, it's an honor to be asked you have something to do with the christening or the baptism. And i'm really pieved when i hear about jews talking about, oh, my goddaughter, because, like, literally, it is an importation of of a religious thing into a tradition that it doesn't fit into at all. But here's, here's my point. There's nothing jewish about it. The jewish analogue is very, very different.
