The Role of Trauma in Emotional Eating
In addition to living in an abundant food environment and having this mismatch, we also have oftentimes a lack of ability to manage emotions. It's so much easier to turn to food to feel better quickly than to think, why am I feeling this way? Is there something that this emotion is trying to tell me about what I need? And is there something I can do to move a little closer to that need? Deprivation is one of the most powerful emotional triggers for eating that I've come across. Where I see trauma playing a bigger role in this is with binge eating disorder.
