The Importance of HIPAA in Online Therapy Services
HIPAA was signed into law in 1996, around the same time Bill Clinton was describing the internet as an information superhighway. In reality, many of the digital services we use have no greater legal obligation to protect information about our health than what TV shows we like to watch or what types of sneakers we want to buy. The question is, are we okay with for-profit tech companies like BetterHelp setting the precedent around privacy and digital health services because that's where we're at?
