Walking in the Footsteps of Ancient Monuments
Wayland smithy is a late stone age or Neolithic tomb. It's one of the oldest standing monuments in our landscape. At the bottom end, there are four standing stones similar to the Sarson stones you'd see at Stonehenge. Searching out from this is a long elongated mound, about 56 metres long or 185 feet. And it's about 13 metres or 43 feet wide. In the middle of the two Sarson stones, though, is a small space, a tomb, which is just about enough for two adults to crouch into.
