Is There a Heart or a Soft Take-Off?
I think both are plausible. One interesting argument for a heart take-off is what Nick Bostrom has called hardware overhang. I think if we really knew the absolutely best way to make AI software, we already have the hardware today existing to create superhuman intelligence. But we're so clueless on the software that we overcompensate with way more hardware than needed. If we ever succeed in building superhuman AI, then the first thing it can do is just iteratively improve its own software over and over and over again many, many times. And it'll suddenly be just dramatically better than it was maybe just the day before. Right. That's kind of always been my sort of starting
