The Importance of State Leaders in Public Spaces
There's a lot of concern among broadcasters that in this meeting between Asot and Obama also did not really make much impact. This idea of state leaders embodying the state through their interpersonal actions is a common theme in international relations. I think it's often undervalued a bit for how much affective work it actually does in public spaces especially when reproduced so often through media. In the rest of chapter one I take up other examples of politicians and bureaucrats talking about the nations largely of the US and Japan kind of as if they were people.
