The Endangered Languages of the World

Almost half of the languages of the world are now seriously endangered in that way. Welsh has been an endangered language, but it's actually rather successful at the moment because of activism. When a language is endangered, when another language comes along and starts taking over the functions of that language, what you do find is that people no longer find themselves able to use the language in the wide range of ways they had previously used it.
