Justices Only an Eye for an Eye and a Tooth for a Tooth
The laws of exodus are thought to have been written by Hamarabi. They were meant to set out how justice should be done in a feuding society. The phrase 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth' comes from the same law. But there is no evidence that it was ever intended as a punishment system.
