Nathan churchill is a professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. His study examined how a past history of concussion affects the brain's ability to recover from later concussions. He found that athletes with prior concussions did not have more severe symptom impairments or prolonged recovery. But he saw substantial differences in their midline brain structures. These effects were present at early injury and lasted up to one year after medical clearance.
