How Life Evolves From an Electrical Gradient Perspective With Nick Lane

The Rhys Show

CHAPTER

How the Hell Did Life Start?

The origin of life is the origin of bacterial cells because those are the earliest forms of life. The seafloor was covered in vents that did exactly that, so it links up with biology just beautifully. You're crossing a huge distance and we have almost no information on how you do that. Some people with their different backgrounds don't know what to think about each other but if you look down an electron microscope they can even see one another. It's great fun trying to be a physicist and a chemist and a biologist and a geologist all at the same time. But I'm constrained by the way that I think about the world and I just have to deal with that.
