In smith's theory of moral sentiments, there isn't a single passion that is an unalloyed virtue or vice. Wealth interests people wanting comfort and he says even those who pursue wealth kill themselves by doing it. The pursuit of self interest given the right institutions can aline with social interest. And i think one of the things, the ideological moves he makes, which is actually interesting, is to actually put wealth in this realm of aestheticism and inventiveness,.
