Introduction
The Chips and Science Act was passed by the U.S. Congress, allocating more than $280 billion over 10 years to semiconductor research. Silicon has been a key element in semiconductors for 50 years, but we are starting to run up against some physical limitations in its ability to support electronics. Shabanti Choudhary is a professor of electrical engineering and a fellow at the Pre-Court Institute for Energy at Stanford University.
