The Battle of the Santissima Trinidad
The Santissima Trinidad was outgunned against three much more experienced crews. A devastating broadside from the HMS Neptune brought down all of her masts in the space of seconds. The Spanish return fire slackened, then stopped. With all her masts gone, the British couldn't tell if the ship had struck its colors. Had the Spanish stopped firing because they were surrendering, or were they simply unable to continue?
