How Do You Define and Measure Running Load?

Reverse lunges are almost a diagnostic exercise that allow you to look at your body and say, well, how fatigued am I really? Can I do this exercise without falling or stumbling? And if you can, you're probably ready for that workout. How would you define and measure running load? Ooh, this is an interesting one, I love this. We could probably better term this and call it workload.
